On January 1, 2025, a series of new laws will come into effect in Illinois. These laws were passed by the state legislature and signed by Governor JB Pritzker. Among the changes is a law prohibiting employers from using E-Verify to confirm employment eligibility for working legally in the United States.

Another significant change involves an amendment to the Illinois Crime Reduction Act. The amendment replaces the term "offender" with "justice impacted individuals."

These measures reflect priorities that Democrats deemed necessary.
