Yesterday, a Mattoon police officer was recognized for his quick response in saving lives during a house fire. Officer Anthony Roley rescued four children, their mother, a service dog, and a cage of hamsters from the burning home. Despite limited time to act, his instincts led him to save lives. "Thank you office Roley for keeping our community safe!!" stated the press release.

The Mattoon Police Department is known for its dedication to public safety, with officers like Anthony Roley exemplifying the department's values. Earlier this year, a public safety roundtable event included discussions with local police departments and Mattoon police chiefs. The mission remains clear: improve community safety and protect individuals from harm.

The press release further expressed concern over politicians' "Soft-On-Crime" policies that are perceived as undermining public safety efforts by law enforcement officers. A petition has been launched to show support for police officers over criminals.
