A recent audit of campaign donations has revealed that Cahokia Unit School District 187 contributed $800 to the "Friends of Christopher Belt" committee earlier this year. This contribution was documented in the campaign's D-2 filings with the state.

The school district, however, expressed disagreement with how the donation was characterized. Superintendent Curtis McCall Jr. contested the description of the payment as a political contribution, despite his past involvement in campaigns and elections as Mayor of Cahokia.

In response to this discovery, an email was sent to both Superintendent McCall and Senator Belt requesting the return of funds to the school district. The only reply came from an email associated with @ilsenatedems.org, confirming that Senator Belt’s campaign would refund the money.

No direct responses have been received from either Superintendent McCall or Senator Belt regarding this issue. Although $800 may seem insignificant, it highlights concerns about the misuse of public funds.

The suggestion has been made for the School Board to carefully review all expenditures before approval to prevent similar situations in the future.
