World War II veteran Walter Urfer honored with House Certificate on his centennial

Walter "Chip" Urfer was honored with a House Certificate on his 100th birthday. The certificate was presented by Jason Meyer, Jasper County Coroner, during a celebration held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, on November 10, 2024.

Rep. Adam Niemerg extended his congratulations to Mr. Urfer for reaching this significant milestone and expressed gratitude for his service to the nation. "Congratulations to Mr. Walter Urfer on reaching this milestone and thank you for your service to our great nation," commented Rep. Niemerg.

Mr. Urfer resides in West Liberty and is among the few remaining World War II veterans from Jasper County. He holds the distinction of being the last living WWII member of the Sainte Marie American Legion Post 932, where he has maintained continuous membership for 75 years.
