FOIA Request to City of Newman Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Newman. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request is for records detailing all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till today's date. We have asked for specific fields in these records including the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the work is being done, and contractor's name.
In addition to this information about new permits, we have also requested details about all active residential and commercial building permits and their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are requested for these active permits.
Access to public records is crucial for us at East Central Reporter as it enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
