A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Olney regarding new and active residential and commercial building permits on October 30, 2024.
The request, made by us at East Central Reporter, seeks comprehensive details about all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. The specific information requested includes the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we also asked for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above were requested for these active permits.
As a media organization committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
We have requested these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act and have asked that they be provided in an electronic format for ease of use. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.
The City Of Olney has yet to respond to this FOIA request.
