A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Paris Finance Department on October 25, 2024. The request was made by us at East Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The records requested under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, are specifically related to sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 2024 till the date of the request. We have asked for these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and analysis.
The detailed information we have sought includes sales tax collected from retailers broken down by month versus projected figures. Additionally, we have also requested data on the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month.
Furthermore, we are interested in obtaining names of each retailer and their gross retail sales reported for each month. This information is critical for our ongoing investigative journalism efforts to provide transparency and hold public institutions accountable.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also expressed our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We look forward to the City Of Paris Finance Department's cooperation in providing these important public records.
