FOIA Request to City Of Charleston Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.
As a part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government, we at East Central Reporter have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Charleston Finance Department. The request was sent on October 31, 2024.
The information sought includes a comprehensive list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, through October 31, 2024. We have asked for specific details such as the business name, type of business, and the amount of sales tax each business paid during this period.
In addition to this, we have also requested data on the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within the same timeframe.
Access to public records is crucial for us at East Central Reporter as it enables us to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. It also allows us to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency for our readership.
We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
We will continue to keep you updated as we receive more information regarding this request.
