FOIA Request Sent to City Of Mattoon Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Mattoon Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Mattoon Finance Department.

Our request, dated October 31, 2024, seeks access to records pertaining to city sales tax. Specifically, we are asking for a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, through October 31, 2024. The information requested includes the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each entity.

In addition to this detailed breakdown, we have also requested data on the total amount of sales tax that the city collected during this period.

Access to public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as a media organization. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As such, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.

We await a response from the City Of Mattoon Finance Department and will continue our efforts in disseminating important information that promotes transparency and accountability in local government.
