A decision on the constitutionality of Illinois' gun and magazine ban is anticipated soon after Monday. The Protect Illinois Communities Act prohibits a wide range of firearms, firearm fittings, and ammunition fixtures from being possessed by residents of Illinois. However, there is an exception for individuals who legally acquired these items before January 10, 2023. To utilize this exception, residents must file an online endorsement affidavit with the Illinois State Police.

Following the signing of this legislation into law by Governor Pritzker, federal lawsuits were filed challenging its constitutionality.

State Representative Chris Miller expressed his opposition to the gun ban: “We must fight to protect our God given rights to keep and bear arms while maintaining the responsibilities that come with owning firearms. No one is arguing that tragic events should be ignored, but the ‘Protect Illinois Communities Act’ is simply a ploy to disarm law abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment Rights.”

The IGOLD event recently attracted a large crowd at the Capitol in support of Second Amendment rights. Attendees voiced concerns about what they perceive as ongoing attacks on constitutional rights.
