The Effingham-based CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation has been awarded a $75,000 state grant to support adult literacy initiatives. State Representative Brad Halbrook announced the grant, which is part of a program administered by the Illinois Secretary of State in his capacity as State Librarian.

“The adult literacy grants help adults across the state who read below a 9th grade level improve their reading and writing skills as well as basic math – skills everyone needs to put them on the path to better career opportunities and a better future,” Rep. Halbrook stated.

Rep. Halbrook highlighted that the assistance is provided by trained volunteer tutors.

CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation serves families in Christian, Clay, Effingham, Fayette, Montgomery, Moultrie, and Shelby counties, aiming for greater economic opportunity and self-sufficiency.
