Thornton Township Supervisor Tiffany Henyard is once again under scrutiny for allegedly using public funds, property, or credit for her private electioneering purposes. Critics argue that this conduct may be prosecutable under Article VIII, Section 1 of the Illinois Constitution. The courts have previously determined that violations of this section are felonious and can be prosecuted under the Official Misconduct statute in the Illinois Criminal Code.

On September 1, 2024, Henyard plans to host an event in Dolton for "Friends of Tiffany Henyard," her personal campaign fund. This event has been advertised on the official Thornton Township Facebook page with a flyer stating it is presented by the Thornton Township Supervisor and Board of Trustees. However, trustees did not approve this advertisement and could not legally endorse such a political campaign event.

Henyard called a special meeting on August 28th to seek township board approval for using public taxpayer funds for this campaign event. Trustees did not attend the meeting; nevertheless, Henyard proceeded with what she termed a "meeting" alongside only the township attorney. The session reportedly lasted about an hour.

Observers are calling for immediate action from the Cook County State’s Attorney to prosecute this alleged electioneering activity.
