Illinois' first crop yield forecast for 2024 has been released, providing insights into the expected performance of corn, soybeans, and winter wheat across the state.
The USDA report projects that corn yields will average 180 bushels per acre. This figure represents a slight increase from last year’s yield. According to the USDA, “favorable weather conditions have contributed to the positive outlook for corn.”
Soybean yields are also expected to perform well, with an estimated average of 55 bushels per acre. This is attributed to improved seed varieties and effective pest management practices. The USDA stated, “farmers have adopted better practices which are likely to enhance soybean productivity this season.”
Winter wheat yields are projected at 70 bushels per acre, maintaining consistency with previous years. The stability in wheat production is due to advancements in agricultural techniques and consistent climatic conditions.
Farmers and agricultural stakeholders across Illinois will closely monitor these projections as they plan for the upcoming harvest season.
