Dieterich, IL - State Representative Niemerg recently engaged with 4th-grade students at Dieterich School, offering them a hands-on experience in the workings of the Illinois General Assembly. Expressing gratitude, Rep. Niemerg thanked Mrs. Worman and Mrs. Koester for the opportunity, stating, "Thank you to Mrs. Worman and Mrs. Koester for having me talk to their 4th Grade classes at Dieterich School today."
During the session, Rep. Niemerg shared insights into his role in the General Assembly and tested the students on their knowledge of the state. "I explained what I do in the Illinois General Assembly and quizzed them on basic information about our State," remarked Rep. Niemerg.
In a fun and interactive exercise, the students were encouraged to step into the shoes of "State Representatives for a Day" by participating in a vote between Pizza and Chicken Nuggets for dinner. The outcome was a clear preference for Pizza, as Rep. Niemerg disclosed, "I had them pretend to be 'State Representatives for a Day' and had them vote on whether they wanted Pizza or Chicken Nuggets for Dinner. Pizza won!"
As a token of their participation, each student received a range of memorabilia, including an Illinois State Certificate for "making their first vote," a coloring book featuring Illinois State symbols, a special State bookmark, and a "Patriotic Voting Hat" of their own. Reflecting on his role in advocating for legislation, Rep. Niemerg shared, "I talked about how I 'argue' or 'debate' in Springfield for what I feel are the best laws."
Rep. Niemerg also extended an invitation to other classes interested in learning about the state government, urging them to reach out to the district office to schedule a similar educational visit.
