State Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) emerged victorious in a hotly contested primary race for the 107th House District, solidifying his position as the Republican candidate for the district with 92% of the votes counted.
Halbrook sent a press release to the East Central Reporter about his win.
"I am deeply honored by the voters' trust in me," Halbrook said in the press release.
"This resounding victory belongs to all who believe in safeguarding our freedoms and ensuring a prosperous future for Illinois.”
"This victory shows that when you do what is right, consistently, voters will support you. I am fighting every day to advance our conservative values. I'm grateful voters are sending me to Springfield to fight for our values and take on the political bullies in both parties."
He notched 8,629 votes for 68% per cent of the vote in comparison to challenger Marsha Webb who received 4,110 votes, or about 32% of the vote.
Halbrook, a Freedom Caucus member, is likely to win his sixth two year term this fall.

Halbrook is a member of the Illinois Freedom Caucus along with State Representatives Chris Miller (D-Oakland), David Friess (R-District 115) Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich), Jed Davis (R-Newark), Blaine Wilhour (Beecher City) and Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur).
