City of Flora City Council met Jan. 15.

OPENING CEREMONIES
Mayor Rick Slaughter called the Regular Council Meeting of the City of Flora to order and City Clerk Becky Burgess called roll. Present were Mayor Rick Slaughter, Commissioner Linda Spicer, Commissioner Jeremy Henderson, Commissioner Phil Wiley and Commissioner Jim Fehrenbacher.
Others in attendance were City Attorney Bob Coble, City Administrator/Economic Development Director Mike Stanford, Chief of Police Guye Durre, City Clerk Becky Burgess, City Treasurer Abbie Orel, Superintendent of Public Services Toby Rinehart and Building and Zoning Official Chad Bayles. Two media representatives and two guests were also present.
Mayor Rick Slaughter led the Pledge of Allegiance and Commissioner Linda Spicer offered the Invocation.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
On behalf of the Clay County Health Department, April Carruthers sought permission to use Charley Brown Park for a resource event.

Commissioner Phil Wiley reminded the citizens to stay safe, to keep your pets safe, and to take necessary measures to make sure your house is ready for the cold weather.
City Administrator/Economic Development Director Mike Stanford presented three ordinances for Council consideration.
A MOTION TO APPROVE ORDINANCE NO. 24-3316, AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE SALE OF REAL ESTATE – 611 W 4TH STREET, FLORA ILLINOIS, WAS MADE BY COMMISSIONER WILEY; SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER SPICER.

Stanford stated that he is working with Joe Goodman, Chairman of Clay County Board, regarding animal control. Stanford explained that we are looking at a $6.00 per capita cost, which would be approximately $28,500 for the City. This is an increase of what we were previous paying ($21,000) and this will be added to the new budget. Stanford stated that hopefully in two years, Maple Flats will start up and the County will take that over and our dues should decrease.
City Clerk Becky Burgess requested closed session minutes be approved.
