State Representative Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro) has expressed satisfaction with the recent conviction of Tim Mapes, the former Chief of Staff to Mike Madigan, who was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for lying to a federal court. Mapes was known for his role in shielding the corruption within the Madigan crime family.

Miller, who has been vocal about the need to address corruption in Illinois, believes that Mapes' sentence is well-deserved and hopes that it will pave the way for further convictions. In a statement, Miller said, "For years, Tim Mapes was used as a shield to hide the corruption within the Madigan crime family and his prison sentence is fully justified. I think Chicago corruption is much deeper than what we think, and crooked Madigan is next up for his convictions that have plagued our state with distrust."

The Republican party in the House has been putting pressure on Democrats to acknowledge and address the problem of corruption in Illinois. They have proposed several solutions to combat corruption, including House Bill 4119, which would prevent defendants from using campaign funds to finance their legal defense, similar to what Madigan has done.

Miller continues to support efforts to end corruption in Chicago and hold corrupt politicians accountable for their actions. He applauds the ethics reform solutions proposed by House Republicans, including House Bill 1277, which would suspend benefit or annuity payments to individuals charged with a felony. Other bills include House Bill 4286, which aims to establish a three-year revolving door ban on lobbying, House Bill 4288, which requires timely reporting by the Executive and Legislative Ethics Commissions, and House Bill 4289, which expands the definition of lobbying and includes more positions at the local level.

The conviction of Tim Mapes has brought renewed attention to the issue of corruption in Illinois. Miller's response highlights the need for accountability and reform, as well as the determination of House Republicans to address this issue head-on. As the state continues to grapple with corruption, the efforts of individuals like Miller serve as a reminder that justice must prevail for the sake of the people of Illinois.
