Several counties in Illinois, including Champaign and Coles County in the 101st District, will soon benefit from grants to enhance public parks and nature areas. The Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Program, managed by the Department of Natural Resources, will fund these projects. State Representative Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro) expressed his enthusiasm for the funding, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on families and communities.

In a statement, Rep. Miller highlighted the significance of investing in the preservation and expansion of forest preserves and recreational areas. He stated, "The efforts to improve and expand forest preserves and recreational areas in the 101st District is fantastic for families who enjoy outdoor activities." He further emphasized that such investments contribute to building "a happier and healthier community for everyone that enjoy what our parks and preserves have to offer."

The OSLAD Program is a state-financed grant initiative that supports the development of public parks and open land. However, these grants are exclusively available to local government agencies. Champaign County is set to receive $1,125,000, which will contribute to the expansion of an existing forest preserve by approximately 150 acres. Coles County and the city of Mattoon will receive around $600,000, specifically designated for improving recreational areas like the Marina and campgrounds.
