Lawmakers in Illinois have returned to Springfield for a new legislative session, and there is a long list of important issues facing the state. At the top of the agenda is the migrant crisis, which has become the highest and most urgent priority. Other concerns include outmigration, high taxes, school reform, excessive business regulations, pension reform, and public corruption.

However, there are concerns about the fairness and inclusiveness of the Democrat supermajority in Springfield. Republicans are already feeling left out of important discussions. According to Rep. Miller, "The Democrat supermajority in Springfield will unlikely conduct business fairly, and they consistently refuse to be 'inclusive'."

Governor Pritzker's Democrat supermajority is proposing a plan to bribe municipalities outside of Chicago to take in illegal migrants. They are offering $17 million to build welcome centers, process work permit applications, and provide housing and healthcare. The funding for this plan is unclear, and there are doubts about the transparency of the motives behind it. Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson has already spoken out against this plan, stating that the true motives are never transparent.

In addition, Chicago Democrats have paused the construction of new migrant shelters, which raises questions about their commitment to being "compassionate" and "welcoming". This development highlights the complexities and contradictions within the Democratic party when it comes to the migrant crisis.

Transparency and inclusivity are also lacking in the formation of the "New Arrivals Working Group" in Springfield. Republican lawmakers and Illinois citizens are not being included in discussions about addressing the ongoing migrant crisis. Rep. Miller emphasizes the need for answers and for all stakeholders to be included in the decision-making process.

Another issue of concern is the decline in the quality of life in Illinois under Democratic leadership. Inflation, high taxes, and poor public policies have led to a decrease in the purchasing power of Illinois residents. According to BLS data, $1 today has the same purchasing power as just $0.85 in January of 2021. This has caused stress and financial hardship for many Illinoisans, who are struggling to cover their expenses.

Furthermore, the cost of car insurance and groceries has skyrocketed in Illinois, adding to the financial burden on residents. State Farm and Allstate have raised their rates by a significant amount, and the price of groceries has increased across the board.

Amidst these challenges, Rep. Miller highlights the need for competent leaders who prioritize the well-being of Illinois families. He believes that a strong local economy, driven by growth, low taxes, and fewer regulations, can improve the quality of life for all Illinoisans. However, he questions whether progressive Democrats are willing to change their ideology and prioritize the needs of the state.

In the midst of the ongoing debate on immigration and the migrant crisis, there are also political tensions. Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago has been accused of turning away illegal migrants while expecting to receive state and federal taxpayer money for his own self-serving purposes. Chicago Teachers' Union president, Stacy Davis Gates, has also been criticized for divisive language and attempting to blame Texas Governor Greg Abbott for the state's challenges.

In conclusion, the current legislative session in Illinois is grappling with a range of urgent priorities, including the migrant crisis, outmigration, high taxes, and public corruption. The lack of transparency and inclusivity in decision-making processes has raised concerns among Republican lawmakers and Illinois citizens. The decline in the quality of life, as evidenced by inflation, high costs of car insurance and groceries, further exacerbates the challenges faced by Illinois residents. It remains to be seen whether the state's leaders will prioritize the needs of the people and work towards effective solutions.
