Parent teacher conferences -

We have 18 parents signed up for junior high conferences and 102 for elementary.

I attended the Instructional Practices Inventory two-day presentation in Bloomington, IN on the 4th & 5th. It was a great experience. I shared some findings on student engagement with other teachers and was able to become trained in the IPI model to be able to do the research myself.

The Raising Student Achievement Conference (RSAC) is coming up in December. I will be presenting on the second day of that conference on student (dis-)engagement research.

Indiana State and NAL have paired together to conduct a STEM day for 4th and 5th graders. They will be doing this on November 3rd and will be providing our teachers a large sum of money for free science supplies that they were able to choose from on Amazon.

In preparation for the additional elementary classroom, we are having to move a few teachers around. I have let them know well in advance and we have a solid plan moving forward to make this work.

I have just finished all tenured and non-tenured evaluations for this semester (16 teachers). I will begin our paraprofessional evaluations next week (additional 11 evaluations).

Discipline update: things are going very well. We have seen an uptick in detentions due to the third behavior log rule. This has been well received and students are taking responsibility in keeping track of their logs over the course of the quarter so far. The discipline committee meets once per month to review our data through TeacherEase.

Principal 9-12 Report - Amy Jones

September 29 was Homecoming at Oakland; many students left early Friday to attend the pep rally and parade.

October 3 was college and career day at Lakeland College; all jrs and seniors attended.

Vape detectors installed October 11.

October 12 PSAT for Jrs; digital this year as compared to years past.

Pam Harper is setting up times before and after school to assist students in preparation in math for the SAT in spring if students are interested.

These are morning sessions to help prepare you for the PSAT or the SAT. We will cover topics that you haven't covered in class or that you may not cover before the test. It is not required that you attend every session but it is to your benefit to be there and learn as much as you can about things you haven't covered that may appear on the PSAT or SAT. If there are enough people to sign up, I will do 2 days a week that are only for those taking the SAT and 2 days a week that are only for those taking the PSAT. If there are any students that can only meet after school, I will set up 2 days a week for those students as well.

Session 1 will start on Monday, Oct 23 and run through Dec 9.

Session 2 will be during the second semester, starting approximately around the end of Jan or early Feb and run through the actual test or close to it (end of March or early April).

Amy McClain and Dorene Boland have proposed to have an additional dual credit English class available next semester through Parkland.

End of the 1st quarter is October 20. Report cards will go out the morning of the 24th.

Haunted Prairie will be October 28th, 6-9pm

CAMA will be hosting Red Ribbon week the week of October 23.

Parent teacher conferences are Wednesday the 25th and Thursday the 26th 4pm-7pm

Herff Jones will be here to talk with parents about class rings, letterman jackets and graduation announcements on Wednesday October the 25th 3-6pm.
