Arcola Community Unit School District 306 Board of Education met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of Arcola Community Unit District #306 Arcola, Illinois was called to order in the High School Library at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 for the purpose of regular business.

President L. Shonkwiler called the meeting to order. The following members answered roll call: Stout, L. Shonkwiler, Conlin, Leyva-Sanchez, Myers, J. Shonkwiler, and Wise.

Others present were: Tom Mulligan, Jennifer Frichtl, Megan Clark, Kyle Shay, Nick Lindsey, Amber Behrends, David Porter, and Lola Shonkwiler.

Pledge of Allegiance

President L. Shonkwiler recognized the visitors and asked for public comment. There were no comments.

Dr. Mulligan reported that he had one FOIA request asking for information on property and casualty insurance and health insurance.

Robin Yockey, the District Auditor, was unable to make it to the meeting this evening.

Motion by Stout, seconded by Leyva-Sanchez, to approve the regular meeting minutes from September 13, 2023 and the Building Committee meeting minutes from October 4, 2023. Administrative Team Reports

The school community suffered a great loss this week with the passing of junior high math teacher, Mr. James Caudle. He took great pride in being a teacher and truly loved what he did. He will be missed around the halls of Arcola. There will be a moment of silence for Mr. Caudle on Friday evening before the start of the football game. As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the school is hosting a celebration at the Arcola Center on Thursday evening from 6-8pm. The junior high and high school have also been having Hispanic Heritage Month Spirit Week this week. Dr. Mulligan reported that he is still working on the student ambassador program. He is reaching out to other school districts that already have a program in place to get more information.
