State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) recently provided an opportunity for three students from New Hebron Christian School in Robinson to gain firsthand experience in the Illinois House of Representatives. These students, Paisley Harrell, Carlie Harrell, and Violet McDonald, were given the unique opportunity to serve as Pages-for-a-Day during the Veto Session.
Rep. Adam Niemerg expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming young individuals to the Capitol, allowing them to learn about their state government and witness actual debates. He believes that this experience allows students to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the General Assembly, fostering a deeper understanding of the democratic process. He shared, "Paisley, Violet, and Carlie were great ambassadors for New Hebron Christian School, and I think they learned a lot at the House of Representatives that day."
Paisley Harrell, an 8th-grade student, not only excels in her academic pursuits but also actively participates in track and basketball. Moreover, she takes on the role of a Peer Mentor at New Hebron Christian School. Violet McDonald, a 7th-grader, is involved in various extracurricular activities such as track, basketball, and the Academic Quiz Bowl. She has a passion for reading, with Christopher Paolini, the author of the Eragon series, being her favorite author. Lastly, Carlie Harrell, a 6th-grade student, shares Paisley's enthusiasm for track and basketball, and also supports the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
New Hebron Christian School has always encouraged its students to engage in unique educational experiences, and serving as Pages-for-a-Day in the Illinois House of Representatives aligns perfectly with this vision. By participating in this program, students have the opportunity to witness the legislative process firsthand and gain practical knowledge about the inner workings of the government.
School groups interested in visiting the State Capitol or students wishing to serve as Pages-for-a-Day can contact Rep. Niemerg's Capitol office at 217-782-2087. Additionally, individuals can sign up for legislative news updates at RepNiemerg.com.
This initiative by Rep. Adam Niemerg not only provides an educational experience for the students of New Hebron Christian School but also serves as a commendable effort to foster civic engagement among the younger generation. By exposing these students to the workings of the government, he aims to inspire them to become active participants in shaping the future of their community and state.
