State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) recently had the pleasure of welcoming senior students from Dieterich High School to the State Capitol in Springfield. The visit took place during the veto session in the Illinois House of Representatives, providing the students with a firsthand experience of the legislative process.

During their visit, the students had the opportunity to visit the House Floor and learn about the responsibilities and duties of a state representative. The visit was organized by Mr. Ryan Repking, an educator at Dieterich High School, who aims to enhance the students' understanding of government and politics.

Rep. Niemerg expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the students, stating, "I enjoy having Mr. Repking's students visit every year to provide them an opportunity to see the General Assembly in action and to complement what they are learning in the classroom. It is apparent they are learning to think critically about current issues that impact their lives."

The visit to the State Capitol allowed the students to witness firsthand how the legislature operates and gain a deeper understanding of the democratic process. Engaging with their elected representatives and observing debates and discussions on important issues can be an invaluable experience for young minds.

In addition to welcoming Dieterich High School, Rep. Niemerg extended an invitation to other schools and civic groups to visit the Capitol during session dates. He encourages educators and community leaders to contact his office to arrange a visit, stating, "If you would like to schedule a time to bring your students or civic group to the Capitol during session dates to observe the General Assembly, please contact Rep. Niemerg's office at 217-813-6036."

The visit concluded with Rep. Niemerg taking the time to explain the workings of the Illinois House of Representatives to Mr. Repking and the students. By providing this educational opportunity, Rep. Niemerg and Mr. Repking are fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the democratic process among the next generation of leaders.

As the students from Dieterich High School departed from the State Capitol, they carried with them a newfound understanding of the legislative process and the important role they play as engaged citizens. Through experiences like these, young individuals are empowered to think critically about the issues that impact their lives and become active participants in shaping the future of their communities and the nation.
