Village of Dieterich Board of Trustees met March 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Dieterich Village Board met in regular session on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at Dieterich Village Hall.

The meeting was called to order by President, Brad Hardiek, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

The following Trustees were present: Derick Stumeier; Sean Pankau; Carrie Galbraith; Chad White; Pam Hartke; and Bill Lane. With six Trustees and President Hardiek in attendance, a quorum was declared to be present. Also at the meeting were Clerk Brittny Gipson, Maintenance Supervisor Mike Campbell, Scott Jansen, Deanna Jansen and Matt Worman.

A motion was made by Trustee P. Hartke; seconded by Trustee S. Pankau to approve the omnibus agenda: approve the minutes of the March 6, 2023 Regular Meeting; approve minutes of the March 16, 2023 Special Meeting; approve a $100 donation to the Dieterich Christian Church for the Easter Egg hunt; and approve a $750 donation to the Dieterich Community Education Foundation for the 2023 annual sponsorship. Roll call was 6 yes and 0 no.

Mike reported it was discovered there was a burst copper water line in the Liberty Park pavilion men’s restroom wall. They are working to get the repair made and the restrooms opened for the Easter Egg hunt at the park on April 1st.

Mike discussed different cleaning methods and possible repairs for the Veterans Memorial arches and surrounding monument. It was agreed that a soft wash to kill the growing mold was necessary and a quote from Excel Eco Clean was reviewed.

A motion was made by Trustee S. Pankau; seconded by Trustee C. White to approve hiring Excel Eco Clean to use a chemical soft wash to clean the Veterans Memorial for $12,200.00. Roll call was 6 yes and 0 no.

Mike reported he was working to price concrete cemetery runners for below the headstones and monument company pricing for the re-setting of the monuments.

Mike reported the lagoon blower motor that quit working was more than bad bearings. The motor cannot be rebuilt, and we need to purchase a new one. Discussions were had regarding keeping with a Kaeser motor or working on a solution to get away from Kaeser. It was agreed Mike should research options to get away from a Kaeser motor.

A motion was made by Trustee B. Lane; seconded by Trustee C. Galbraith to approve hiring Effingham County to scarify certain roads in Dieterich to help reshape the profile for a price not to exceed $2,500.00. Roll call was 6 yes and 0 no.

Matt Worman, Scott Jansen and Deanna Jansen were present to discuss their ideas for a new bar and restaurant in Dieterich. Nothing has been formally formed or agreed upon, but they wanted to run their ideas by the Board to see if there were any concerns before they went any further in the process. The Board had no concerns with their plan and was encouraging them to further plan and develop their idea.

The Board acknowledged a Proclamation by President Hardiek honoring the 2022- 2023 Dieterich 7th Grade Junior High Boys Basketball team for their 2nd Place finish at the IESA 2A State Basketball Tournament.

A motion was made by Trustee C. Galbraith; seconded by Trustee P. Hartke to approve AKRA Builders, Inc. Change Order #7 for the Wright Family Center for $9,874.00. Roll call was 6 yes and 0 no.

A motion was made by Trustee P. Hartke; seconded by Trustee S. Pankau to approve the participation of IMRF for Village employees. Clerk Gipson will prepare the official Ordinance for the next meeting. Roll call was 6 yes and 0 no.

There was no motion to go into Closed Executive Session.

In Other New Business, Clerk Gipson reported there were three DHS students that submitted applications for summer employment. It was agreed that we were planning to hire three students, so all would be offered a position in the maintenance department for summer employment. Clerk Gipson will prepare the annual employee appointment Ordinance for those summer employees who want to join us. It was also agreed to bring back John McVicar on a part-time basis for mowing, until the summer employees were out of school and could work full days.

During the Trustee comments portion of the meeting, Clerk Gipson was asked to remind residents that Non-highway vehicle stickers are required to legally drive your Non-highway vehicle on the Village of Dieterich streets and stickers are now ready for purchase at Village Hall.

At 8:07 p.m. a motion was made by Trustee C. Galbraith; seconded by Trustee B. Lane to adjourn the meeting. Roll call was 6 yes and 0 no.
