Illinois state Rep. Chris Miller (R-Robinson) is one of a number of legislators who is speaking out against Gov. JB Pritzker's push to change the rules of Title IX.
"We need to stop the insanity and quit living in a pretend culture where we just ignore things we don’t want to face," Miller told the East Central Reporter recently. "There are differences in the sexes when it comes to things like this. Boys should compete against other boys and girls against other girls."
In the wake of President Joe Biden’s recent announcement about amending the parameters of Title IX , a recent report by the Prairie State Wire stated that Illinois is now one of 29 states that allow boys to compete in girls’ sports on the high school level.
Last year, Illinois joined 13 other states in the filing of a legal brief to overturn an Indiana law that prohibits transgender students from participating in school sports.
Earlier in April, the U.S. Supreme Court stopped short of reversing a lower court’s verdict that blocked enforcement of a law passed two years ago in West Virginia that prohibited boys from taking part in girls’ high school sports.
Just over a year ago, University of Pennsylvania male swimmer Will “Lia” Thomas won two titles in the women’s NCAA swimming championships but was subsequently scorned and given the label of “cheat” by many, including University of Kentucky star Riley Gaines, whom she tied in the 200-meter freestyle championships.
Along with Illinois, the other states that allow boys to participate in girls’ high school sports include Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin; the Wire said.
