Neoga Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met March 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Neoga Community Unit School District #3 was held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in the District Office.

ROLL CALL: Present: Michelle Sheehan, Don Strohl, Brian Titus, Angie Worman, Chuck Campbell

Absent: Shawn Finney, Gerald Hanfland

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:

RECEPTION OF GUESTS AND PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS: February Spirit Winners – Encourage Others were introduced to the board – Jonathan Prather, Xavier Gomez-Cruz, Katherine Jansen, Alejandro Jimenez, and Cameron Strohl. Other winners that were recognized but not present were London Bright, Charlotte Ippolito, Lucy Hoene, Bentley Bright, Adelyn Hill, Dalton Cole, and Brody Helm. Winners had pizza today with Mr. Bear.

PAYMENT OF BILLS: Motion by Strohl, seconded by Sheehan to approve payment of bills in the amount of $165,277.89.

VOTE: Yea: Sheehan, Strohl, Worman, Campbell

Abstain: Titus

Absent: Finney, Hanfland

CONSENT AGENDA: Motion by Hanfland, seconded by Finney to:

approve February payroll – Education Fund $ 285,864.98, Building Fund $20,175.60, Transportation Fund $15,259.92 for a total of $321,300.50

approve February 9, 2023 regular meeting minutes, February 9, 2023 closed session minutes

approve NES and NJSHS Activity Report

approve Board Policy Updates Issue 110

approve amended calendar for 2022-2023 school year

INFORMATION AND ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS:

Mr. Haarman, Superintendent reported on the following:

Governor focusing on preschool, teacher shortage, and budget

Transportation claim has seen a reduction over the past few years. During Covid the State reimbursement was at 100% and we now see it 80%. This is the rate is was at before Covid.

EIASE is experiencing staff shortages

Thanks to Brandy Thompson, Aimee Wetenkamp, and Troy Vaughn who helped chaperone fan busses that allowed our students to attend the girls basketball games.

Cyber Security- District plans to take measures to stay up to date on security Pre Bid meeting will be March 21 at 2:00 pm. Bid opening meeting will be April 4 at 2:00 pm.

Statement of Economic Interest need completed and turned in to the Unit Office or County Clerk’s office

Mr. Bear, Elementary Principal reported on the following:

Father/Daughter dance and Mother/Son event were well attended

FFA invited elementary students to the Petting Zoo. Huge hit!

February PBIS – Valentine Bingo

Read Across America Week – Thanks to Mrs. Keck organizing the activities.

Second Grade Living Museum was held March 9th. Students did a fantastic job! Thanks to Mrs. Westjohn and Mrs. Bryan for the event.

Upcoming – April PBIS – Students will get to go to AMC theaters and see Super Mario Bros.

Mrs. Bridges, Jr./Sr. High School Principal reported on the following:

Pre registration is complete

Six students are interested in the EMT course

FFA week was a huge success!

National Honor Society had 100 runners for their 5K Fundraiser. The induction ceremony for new members was held on March 1st.

Shout out to Mr. Taylor for sharing his enthusiasm with the student body on the high school girls basketball team post season run

Upcoming events – Variety Show, Musical, and numerous field trips

Dean of Students/AD Report:

Written report presented to the Board.

Congratulations to the High School Girls Basketball team with a 32-4 season. This is the most wins in a season for the program.

Spring sports numbers: JH Track – 50, HS Track – 25, and HS Baseball – 22.

At this time, there is not enough girls to field a softball team this year. Looking at options for the girls that are interested.

Junior High sports banquet will be held May 8th and the High School banquet will be May 10th.

REVIEW MONTHLY CASH FLOW REPORT: Superintendent Haarman went over the monthly cash flow with the board.

CLOSED SESSION FOR EXCEPTION 1, THE EMPLOYMENT, COMPENSATION, DISCIPLINE, PERFORMANCE, OR DISMISSAL OF SPECIFIC EMPLOYEES OF THE PUBLIC BODY; EXCEPTION 2, COLLECTIVE BARGAINING MATTERS BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD AND ITS EMPLOYEES OR THEIR REPRESENTATIVES, OR DELIBERATIONS CONCERNING SALARY SCHEDULES FOR ONE OR MORE CLASSES OF EMPLOYEES AND EXCEPTION 10, THE PLACEMENT OF INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND OTHER MATTERS RELATING TO INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS; Motion by Sheehan, seconded by Titus to go into closed session at 7:27 p.m. for closed session for exception 1, the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body; exception 2, collective bargaining matters between the school board and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees and exception 10, the placement of individual students in special education programs and other matters relating to individual students

Absent: Finney, Hanfland

The Board returned from closed session at 7:42 p.m.

APPROVE RESIGNATIONS: Motion by Sheehan, seconded by Titus to accept resignation of Deacon Faulkner as Junior High Yearbook Sponsor for Neoga CUSD#3/ Motion carried.

HIRE PERSONNEL: Motion by Worman, seconded by Sheehan to approve the following hires for Neoga CUSD#3.

Kayci Coulibaly as elementary teacher

Paci McClure as junior high assistant track coach

VOTE: Yea: Sheehan, Strohl, Titus, Worman, Campbell

Absent: Finney, Hanfland

APPROVE VOLUNTEERS: None

AGENDA ITEM FOR FUTURE MEETINGS: None

NEXT MEETING: Regular meeting April 13, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Board of Education Office.

ADJOURNMENT: Motion by Strohl, seconded by Worman to adjourn the meeting at 7:44 pm. Motion carried.
