Freshman Sincere Malone had the first double-double of the season for Eastern Illinois in the Panthers final game of the season as EIU hosted Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon at First Mid Court at Lantz Arena.
EIU honored Yaakema Rose Jr., and CJ Lane prior to the game. Leading by one at halftime, Tennessee Tech shot 54 percent in the second half to pick up a 75-66 win over Eastern Illinois. Malone finished with 12 points and ten rebounds, one of three EIU players finishing in double figures. He also added four steals to his season total which ends at an OVC leading 62 steals, the third best single season total in school history. Kinyon Hodges led EIU with 21 points while Cameron Haffner added 13.
The Panthers were 12-of-15 at the foul line but only 4-of-16 from 3-point range. TTU led 32-31 at the half. The Golden Eagles would push the lead out to double figures with 6:02 remaining on a 3-pointer by Jayvis Harvey capping a 7-2 TTU run. They would keep the lead around ten points the remainder of the game leading by as many as 13-points with just over two minutes left on a 3-pointer by Jaylen Sebree. Harvey had 17 points to lead TTU as four players scored in double figures.
The Golden Eagles ended the night 11-of-31 from 3-point range as they locked up the No. 2 seed in the OVC Tournament. TTU is now 15-16 overall, 11-7 in the OVC.
EIU ends the season at 9-22 overall, 5-13 in the OVC.
