Get an inside look at the East Bay region, impacts of the pandemic, and opportunities for growth as well as a deeper dive into Oakland’s economic ecosystem at this year’s Annual Economic Development Summit.
This event features a special guest speaker and Senior Advisor to the Governor, Dee Dee Myers, the 9th Annual Citywide Economic Data Report presented by Beacon founder and economist, Chris Thornberg, Ph.D, All Home Founder and Ceo, Tomiquia Moss, and a panel discussion on Housing and Homelessness.
Margaret Jane "Dee Dee" Myers is an American political analyst who served as the 19th White House Press Secretary during the first two years of the Clinton administration. She was the first woman and the second-youngest person to hold that position. Myers later co-hosted the news program Equal Time on CNBC, and was a consultant on The West Wing. She was the inspiration for fictional White House Press Secretary C. J. Cregg. She is also the author of the 2008 New York Times best-selling book, Why Women Should Rule the World. In 2020, she joined the Gavin Newsom administration as Senior Advisor to the Governor and Director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development.
Christopher Thornberg Ph.D. founded Beacon Economics LLC in 2006. Under his leadership the firm has become one of the most respected research organizations in California serving public and private sector clients across the United States. In 2015, Dr. Thornberg also became Director of the UC Riverside School of Business Center for Economic Forecasting and Development and an Adjunct Professor at the School.
An expert in economic and revenue forecasting, regional economics, economic policy, and labor and real estate markets, Dr. Thornberg has consulted for private industry, cities, counties, and public agencies in Los Angeles, San Francisco and the Bay Area, San Diego, the Inland Empire, New York, Seattle, Orange County, Sacramento, Arizona, Nevada, and other geographies across the nation. He has also worked on Wall Street, advising hedge fund manager Paulson & Co. about macroeconomic issues.
With more than 20 years of leadership and management experience, Tomiquia Moss is locally and nationally recognized as a dynamic nonprofit and public sector leader with expertise in housing and homelessness, public policy, and community development. Before founding All Home, Tomiquia served as the CEO of Hamilton Families, which offers emergency, transitional, and permanent housing services for families experiencing homelessness. Tomiquia holds a Masters’ in Public Administration from Golden Gate University. She is the Chair of SPUR’s Board of Directors, and also sits on the boards of the Nonprofit Housing Association of Northern California and Oakland Promise. Tomiquia and her family are proud to call Oakland home.
