Illinois State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) welcomed a visiting government class from Dieterich High School to the State Capitol in Springfield during a legislative session on Tuesday, according to a press release published by Niemerg on Friday.

“Mr. [Ryan] Repking does an excellent job with teaching how government is supposed to work and engaging his students to think critically about current issues that impact their lives,” Niemerg said. “Bringing the students to their state capitol to observe the actual process of discussions and debates is a nice compliment to the textbook information they learn.”

The Illinois House GOP also published a short video on YouTube on Tuesday showing Niemerg welcoming the class inside the Capitol.

"Behind me, I have the high school government class for Mr. Repking from Dieterich, and I want to welcome them to Springfield and say 'Enjoy your day and welcome to the Capitol,'” Niemerg said.

On Feb. 1, Niemerg published a press release announcing his appointment to the Legislative Audit Commission, which is a body comprised of members of the Illinois House and Senate required to review all audits conducted by the state auditor general.

“I am grateful to House Republican Leader Tony McCombie for appointing me to serve on the Legislative Audit Commission," Niemerg said. "This commission oversees the audits of state agencies, which under Gov. JB Pritzker, have been an absolute mess,” Niemerg said. “As a member of this commission, I will have access to information on how state agencies are falling short, and have the unique opportunity to offer solutions on how we can make Illinois government work better for taxpayers. Our citizens deserve a conservative and fiscally responsible voice at the table.”

In addition, Niemerg published a press release on Feb. 3 revealing his new committee assignments, stating that he will serve as a permanent member of the Illinois House Appropriations General Services, Consumer Protection, Elementary and Secondary Education School Curriculum and Policy, Insurance, Restorative Justice and Labor & Commerce Committees.

Niemerg is a Teutopolis native and a Dieterich resident who was first elected to the Illinois House in 2020. A member of the St. Isidore Catholic Parish, Niemerg is also a senior claims adjuster with over a decade of experience for Country Financial.
