In a Feb. 2 Facebook post, Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Vandalia) wrote sarcastically about proposed legislation called the "Armed Security Protection Act."
“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you one of the latest bills to be introduced in Springfield, what I like to call the ‘We've Given Up, Hire Your Own Armed Guards’ Act. Read it yourself at the link below,” he wrote on Facebook.
The bill, proposed by Rep. Thaddeus Jones (D-South Holland), requires that banks, grocery stores, gas stations, and pawn shops in communities with more than 2 million residents have at least one armed guard during all business hours. The act would expire after June 30, 2027. It has been sent to the Rules Committee.
Illinois Policy reports this bill would increase costs for business owners that are affected. It also notes that Jones introduced this bill in the previous assembly.
Plummer joined the Illinois Senate in 2019, He was elected to represent the people of the 54th Senate District. Outside his legislative work, Plummer is the vice president of R.P. Lumber and R.P. Home and Harvest, family-owned and operated businesses with over 100 locations throughout Illinois and six other states.
