Sen. Darren Bailey, R-Xenia, took to social media on Tuesday to rail against recently approved abortion expansion legislation, calling it “pure evil.”
Gov. JB Pritzker, according to a news release, on Friday signed House Bill 4664 into law, which protects healthcare providers from legal action and expands healthcare access and options statewide. According to the governor’s news release, the legislation also ensures that the Wrongful Death Act cannot be used as a result of legal abortion. Bailey shared his speech on the Senate floor during the debate.
“Celebrating children I have absolutely no idea how we move into something like this after that I have no words for it other than pure evil,” he said in the video posted on Facebook. “This is wrong.”
In the speech, Bailey also read Psalm 139 verses 13-16. On Wednesday, he offered thanks on his official Senate Facebook page to his constituents.
“To every single one of you in the 55th Senate District, thank you for allowing me to serve,” he said. “It has been my great honor!"
Bailey sought the governor’s seat in the November election, coming up short in his bid to unseat Pritzker. According to the State Journal-Register, Pritzker, the Democratic incumbent, received 2,197,760 votes (54.6%) and Bailey received 1,717,777 votes (42.6%). Scott Schluter received 112,436 votes, according to the State Journal-Register.
