Eastern Illinois men and women's swimming dropped their first meet of the new year at Lewis University by the following scores: EIU Women's - 117 Lewis Women's -142, EIU Men's - 84 Lewis Men's - 177. EIU collected 11 wins during Saturday's meet.

The Panthers won the first race of the meet in Romeoville after the women's 200 medley team of Olivia Viele, Corinne Staneart, Kaylan Ottosen and Camryn Lewis posted the top time of 1:50.24. EIU men's team in the same event of Andrew Herman, Marshall Holt, Sebastian Rosales and Dismas Dillon finished in second (1:38.19).

Spencer Wilson earned a third place finish in the men's 1000 yard freestyle with a finals time of 10:31.72. Phoebe Croston (2:01.34) and Connor Colston (1:46.13) both earned second place finishes for their respective teams in the 200 yard free.

EIU earned their first individual first place finishes in back-to-back events with the Panthers sweeping the 50 yard backstroke. Viele took home the gold for the women's with a time of 28.45 while Herman finished in first with a time of 24.30.

Staneart (31.31) set a new personal best in the 50 breaststroke on her way to a second place finish while Genevieve Biberdorf collected a third place with a time of 33.02. Canyon Bain also finished in third in the 50 breast on the men's side (27.54).

The Panthers picked up another first place finish in the men's 100 yard butterfly when Rosales earned his first win of the season with a finals time of 53.41. Matthew Triaszin also earned a second place finish in the 100 fly (53.78).

On the women's side, Lewis earned another first place finish in the 50 free after posting a time of 24.90. Autumn Grinter came in third in that same event (25.32). Dillon also earned a second place for the men's team in the 50 free (22.07).

Viele and Herman went back-to-back first places finishes for the second time on Saturday after the Panthers swept the gold in the 100 backstroke. Viele finished with a time of 1:01.70 while Herman posted a 52.45.

Kennedy Darensbourg got the women's team on the board in the distance portion of the meet with a win in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:28.64. Biberdorf also earned a first place in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:54.36.

The Panthers finished the meet with another pair of back-to-back first place finishes when Dillon (23.76) and Ottosen (27.18) took home the gold in the men and women's 50 yard butterfly.

Eastern Illinois will return to the pool on Jan. 20 when they travel to Valparaiso for an away meet against the Beacons. The meet will start at 5 p.m. in two weeks.
