Robinson Public Library District Board of Trustees met Oct. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Total board members present: 5

Library staff present: Doug Roberts, Director; Janice Shick, Bookkeeper; Mindi Williamson, Children’s Librarian

Meeting called to order at 5:09 p.m.

Action Items:

Approved to accept the September 20, 2022 board meeting minutes as written, with no changes. Roll call of five approved

Approved the September Check Register results as presented by bookkeeper, Janice Shick. Roll call of five approved. Board was also provided with the month/year-to-date balance sheet results and the aged payables

Approved the library policy manual update. Roll call of five approved.

Discussion Items:

President’s report highlighted the following:

Discussed this year’s board-sponsored staff Christmas party. Tentatively agreed to Tuesday, December 13 at 6 p.m. in the Newlin room.  The library will close down early that day, at 5:30 p.m.  It was also decided to include a “plus 1” for each staff member for this year’s event.  Debbie Scott will contact the caterer used the previous two years to check on availability. Also discussed providing the staff with some type of “sweet treat”, like cinnamon rolls, for breakfast at some point during that week.

Board heard Director's report which highlighted the following:

Effingham Striping re-striped the Robinson parking lot on Monday, September 26.

Hosted an adult learning first-aid class entitled “Stop the Bleed” conducted by Dr. Preston Reilly on Tuesday, September 27. We had three people in attendance.

Received payment check from Ameren for the gas line easement on Thursday, September 29.

Droste Concrete removed the old aggregate pad at the employee entrance (under the overhang) and poured a new concrete pad on Friday, September 30.

We had a booth again this year at the Heath Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 1. We had 119 people stop by our booth (81 adults/38 kids).  We issued 11 new library cards at the event.

We were contacted by Amy Howell at the Crawford County Health Department about participating in the CCHD Baby Safety Expo on Tuesday, November 29.

Hosted an adult learning cooking class conducted by University of Illinois Extension entitled “Five Ingredient Fix” on Tuesday, October 4. The class was taught by Mary Wright and there were five people in attendance.

We recently had a lead test conducted by Culligan of Vincennes in advance of installing the water fountain (approved for purchase at the July 19 meeting). The test results came back unfavorable so instead we decided to lease a hot/cold bottled-water dispenser from Culligan.  It was delivered on Wednesday, September 28.  In the end, leasing the dispenser is going to be far more cost efficient over the next ten years versus installing a water fountain.

Brought on a part-time person on Tuesday, October 11, to help with our website and social media presence. The new person, Paige Hensley, is a recent LTC grad that is currently interning with the athletic department administering their website.

September 20 was the first day that trustee candidates can pick up election packets. Notarized packets can be returned to the Director, from December 12-19, during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Board heard the Children’s Librarian report:

Story hour started up again after Labor Day. In September, we read books about sheep, frogs and cats.  We danced, sang and made some fun crafts.

The Apollo Experience Space Display came to the library in mid-September and was on display until October 15. The exhibition was a displayed replica items related to the space program and included an astronaut’s suit, various equipment, badges and a rocket made of Legos.

We also had a program for the Headstart organization. Children from the group came to the library to experience a story hour and take a tour of the facility.  We had 15 children and four adults.

We are planning several programs for this fall including a visit from Santa along with the Reindeer from Dahnke Farms; a Putt-Putt Storywalk in conjunction with Family Reading Night; and a stuffed animal workshop.

Debbie Scott summarized upcoming events for the district and then made a motion for adjournment.  All were in favor.
