Booth Library to offer activities for Wellness Week

Eastern Illinois University's Booth Library will present a series of activities to promote stress relief and overall wellness from Dec. 5-9. All are invited to participate in these free programs.

Throughout the week, patrons are invited to create their own ornament in the library Atrium. Ornaments and craft supplies will be available. Patrons may create an ornament and take it with them, or they are welcome to hang it on the Christmas tree in the Atrium.

Patrons also will have the opportunity to share a positive message through Origami Inspiration. Patrons can write words of encouragement on provided paper, then fold it to make their own origami creation (instructions will be provided). Participants can take an Origami Inspiration with them and leave one for their fellow students. This activity will take place on the library's fourth floor.

Zero Balancing sessions with EIU’s Dr. Misty Rhoads will be offered in the library’s Edgar Room. During the sessions, participants will remain fully clothed and lay face up on a massage table while Rhoads works with pressure points in the body to help relieve body aches, release stress and boost well-being. Appointments are requested for these 15-minute free sessions. Interested participants can reserve a spot using the link. Sessions are offered from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5; 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 6-7; noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8; and 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 9.

Local yoga instructor Karen Reed will lead breathing exercises and stretches to promote stress release from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the West Reading Room. No registration is required, and all are welcome to come and go as schedules allow.

The Tarble Arts Center will present a Crystal Bowl Sound Bath from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the center. The program, led by Tyna Loafman, is scheduled to coincide with the cycles of the moon and support collective stillness, gratitude, and reflection. The Tarble will provide a limited number of meditation cushions and chairs on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants may also bring their own yoga mat or cushion. Participants are invited to arrive between 5-5:15 p.m. to get settled. Doors will be locked and the sound bath will begin promptly at 5:15 p.m. and last for approximately 45 minutes. No prior experience is necessary, and all are welcome. Registration is required for entry; interested participants can sign up here.
