Village of Arthur Board of Trustees met Aug. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Arthur, Illinois, was held in the Village Board Room. Mayor Pro Tem Matt Bernius called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Roll call was answered by Trustees Todd Dukeman, Jim Fleming, Dave Tiffan, and Christy Miller. Trustee Michael Hilgenberg was absent. Also present were Arianna Cherry and Angie Parsons.

Pledge of Allegiance

• Mayor Pro Tem Matt Bernius lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Public Comment

• None.

Approval of Minutes

J. Fleming made a motion to approve the July 18, 2022 Board of Trustees Regular Meeting, as well as the Jul 25, 2022 Community Relations Committee Meeting Minutes. C. Miller seconded. All Trustees voted YEA.

Approval of Expenditures

• T. Dukeman made a motion to approve expenditures in the amount of $40,132.44. M. Bernius seconded. All Trustees voted YEA.

Village President Comments and Announcements

• No report.

Trustees' Reports

• J. Fleming reported that he was pleased to see that the area will be receiving state grants in the total of $450,000. The Illinois Amish Heritage Center will be receiving $305,000 and Aikman Wildlife Adventure was awarded $145,000. J. Fleming invited everyone to the Illinois Amish Heritage Center for Steam Threshing Days this weekend. They wil serving breakfast and will have pancakes, sausage, and liverwurst. 

• M. Bernius brought up the railroad property and moving forward with the parcels that were not purchased. He would like for Kenny to re-send the map of the available properties to the board members.

Chief of Police Report

• Chief Police Goodman was absent.

Public Works Supervisor's Report

• Grant Corum was absent.

Simply Arthur's Report

• Angie Parsons presented a report on behalf of Simply Arthur. Kenny will also give an update soon.

Village Attorney's Report

• Kenny Crossman mentioned that there are a handful of railroad property sales that will be closing in the near future.

Unfinished Business

• none

New Business 

1. Teri Miller would like to host free community yoga classes at Dorothy Jurgen's Garden Park. She would like to host a morning class at 5:45 a.m. and an evening class at 5:45 p.m. The board requests that Ms. Miller list the Village of Arthur as additionally insured on her insurance policy. J. Fleming made a motion to allow Teri Miller to host free community yoga classes at Dorothy Jurgens Garden Park after naming the Village as additionally insured. C. Miller seconded. All Trustees voted YEA.

2. The Arthur-Atwood Lions Club is requesting use of a portion of the lagoon area for pit parking during the Tractor Pull scheduled for August 12, 2022 in Jurgen's Park with the provision that a safety fence is in place during the event. C. Miller made a motion to table this item. T. Dukeman seconded. All Trustees voted YEA. 

3. The Heart of Amish Country Rodeo would like to request access to a portion of the lagoon property for an event on August 19-20, for contestant parking. J. Fleming made a motion to allow the Heart of Amish Country Rodeo to use a portion of the lagoon with the provision that a safety fence is in place during the event, as well as the Village of Arthur being named additionally insured on their insurance policy. D. Tiffan seconded. All Trustees voted YEA.

General Discussion

The Illinois Amish Heritage Center would like to use the speed trailers for their event this weekend.

• J. Fleming made a motion to adjourn. C. Miller seconded. All Trustees voted YEA. Mayor Pro Tem Bernius adjourned the meeting at 7:18 pm.
