Panthers Swim Battles At Ball State Friday Night

Eastern Illinois swimming (Men's: 1-2, Women's 2-1) dropped both of their meets Friday night in Muncie, Ind. against Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State (1-0). Eastern Illinois women's team lost their first dual meet of the season while the men's drop to 1-2.

EIU started off the night with a second place finish in the women's 200 yard medley relay with the team of Olivia Viele, Corinne Staneart, Kaylan Ottosen and Camryn Lewis with a time of 1:49.42). The men's team of Andrew Herman, Canyon Bain, Matthew Triaszin and Dismas Dillon finished in third in the same event finish in third (1:36.98).

Spencer Wilson won the men's 1000 free with a time of 10:02.40 to earn his first victory of the season. Kennedy Darensbourgh finished in second over on the women's side (10:53.03). Herman captured the second first place finish for the men in the 100 backstroke with a finals time of 53.20. Connor Colston (1:44.12) and Ottosen (2:00.03) both finished third in the 200 free.

In the 100 breaststroke, Staneart captured another first place win with a finals time of 1:07.83. Marshal Holt got on the board with a third place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.80). Lewis, the Summit League leader in the 50 free, finished in third with a time of 24.74. Dillon finished in third as well on the men's side in the 500 free (21.84).

Herman again helped the men's team in the 200 backstroke with a third place finish and a finals time of 2:00.02. Holt also helped Eastern out with a finals time of 2:16.75 in the 200 breaststroke. He lead all Panthers in the event in rout to a second place finish.

In the 500 yard freestyle, Darensbourgh on the women's team collected a third place finish with a time of 5:21.97. Viele also added a third place finish to the match with a finals time of 1:00/31 in the 100 butterfly.

Eastern swept in both 200 yard IM competitions. On the women's side, Genevieve Biberdorf finished in first place with a time of 2:16.84. Phoebe Croston and Cydney Adams finished behind her with times of 2:21.57 and 2:21.70.

The men's team in the 200 IM finished with Jackson Penny (2:02.14) earning first place with Bain (2:08.83) and Hooper Thomas (2:09.62) in second and third.

The meet concluded with a pair of Eastern victories in the 400 freestyle relays. The women's team of Lewis, Autumn Grinter, Staneart and Ottosen finished with a time of 3:45.33. The men's team of Wilson, Jacob Wienants, Colston and Dillon finished with a time of 3:15.20.

The final scores were:

EIU Men's - 86.5

Ball State Men's - 170.5

EIU Women's - 93

Ball State Women's - 163

The Panthers will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Evansville, Ind. for a tri meet against Evansville and Indiana State. The meet starts at 1 p.m. on Nov. 5.
