Senator Doris Turner and the Christian County Senior Citizens Center are hosting a health fair for older folks in the community in October.

“There are a wide variety of resources available to seniors, but not everyone is aware of them,” Turner said on her website. “Our goal is to help connect our neighbors with resources and information to help them stay safe, informed and healthy.”

WGEM reported Gov. J.B. Pritzker and other state leaders began its Program of All-Inclusive Care (PACE), which seeks innovation and comprehensive health care for seniors.

“We’re bringing access right to our seniors’ doorsteps,” Gov. Pritzker said to WGEM. “And if it’s covered by Medicare and Medicaid, it’s covered by PACE.”

The fair will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 4 at 701 West Adams Street in Taylorsville.

Cision PR Newswire reported there are approximately over 100 PACE programs in the United States. The National PACE Association has been hosting events throughout this month.

“Expanding access to PACE is a bipartisan, cost-effective solution to the nation’s senior care crisis,” Shawn Bloom, president and CEO of the National PACE Association, said in the release. “It increases quality of life, reduces dependency on nursing home care, and above all treats our seniors with the respect they deserve. We’re grateful that Missouri and Illinois now offer PACE and look to every state and the federal government to ensure that PACE is available to every family that it can serve.”

Local and state resource organizations will be on hand to share information and answer constituent questions. The Christian County Department of Public Health will be on-site to provide flu vaccinations. Those interested should bring their insurance card or Medicare card to utilize these services, otherwise, it will be a $40 out-of-pocket cost.

Turner was first elected to the Illinois Senate in 2021. A Democrat, their legislative experience includes serving on the Agriculture Committee and State Government Committee. Turner is a state senator who resides in Springfield, according to the Illinois Senate.
