In his Aug. 29 newsletter, Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) expressed doubts about the newly opened Mulligan Solar Farm.
"I’ll have no confidence that this project will deliver as promised," Halbrook posted in his newsletter.
"At the grand opening of the Mulligan Solar Farm, located outside Lincoln, the governor said Illinois is leading a 'clean energy revolution' against climate change and 'we view the climate crisis as an existential threat to our lives and our livelihoods," Halbrook wrote. "You must give the Left credit for getting their talking points down stone cold. It will be interesting to follow the money on this project."
The Mulligan Solar Farm was initially discussed in a planning meeting on June 4, 2020, according to Lincoln Daily News. The publication said Mulligan Solar, LLC's application for the solar energy system would generate up to 70 megawatts across 874 acres of participating parcels. The project would interconnect to the existing Ameren Fogarty 138 kV substation. The interconnection facilities, would be located with the Fogarty substation on an adjacent parcel.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, construction of the project brought 300 construction jobs and is contributing $7 million in tax revenue. It is generating enough power for 14,000 U.S. homes.
