Rep. Adam Niemerg recently criticized Gov. J.B. Pritzker for turning Illinois into a disaster.
“Folks, this pretty much sums it up ... power and control. At least the governor admits he’s turned Illinois into a disaster!" Niemerg said in a Facebook post.
Pritzker issued an emergency declaration focusing on monkeypox on Aug. 1. The press release notes that the declaration is only valid for 30 days. It "expands the resources and coordination efforts of state agencies in responding to, treating and preventing the spread of monkeypox. Proclaiming a state of disaster will allow IDPH to expand vaccine and testing capacities with the help of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and via state and federal recovery and assistance funds. This proclamation will aid in facilitating the complicated logistics and transportation of vaccines across the state to reach the most impacted communities efficiently."
Niemerg has pushed back against Pritzker's use of executive orders and proclamations in the past, according to East Central Reporter. Recently, he cheered parents who fought the COVID-19-related mandates for schools.
Niemerg isn't the only one who disagrees with Pritzker's use of executive orders. Illinois Policy has spoken out about these orders as well, Prairie State Wire reported.
“Pritzker should not be able to unilaterally extend his emergency powers, and certainly should not be able to do so indefinitely. What started as a necessary emergency response has become 790 days of rule by executive order,” Illinois Policy argued back in May.
