Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
Event Name: Sarah Lincoln: A Grateful Nation
Description:
Sarah Lincoln, born in 1788, stepmother to Abraham, successfully raised a family in the harshest conditions of the American frontier. Her success in the domestic sphere, operating within traditional gender roles, nurtured one of the nation’s greatest leaders. Lori Henderson, Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation Board President, will talk about Sarah's impact and how women have preserved her memory in Coles County. Lori used the fictional book “That Nation Might Live: One Afternoon with Lincoln's Stepmother” for inspiration which is based on William Herndon’s interview with Sarah after the assassination of the president. It is available at the Goosenest Prairie Gift Shop at Lincoln Log Cabin.
