City of Martinsville City Council Met Aug. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

*The meeting was called to order by Mayor Davidson. Alderman Lovell led us in prayer. All in attendance recited the “Pledge of Allegiance.” Roll call was answered by the following council members and elected officials: Chris Davidson, Chris Perry, John Skinner, Melinda Lovell, and Troy Propst. Preston Rukes was absent. Also, in attendance were Mayor Herman Davidson, Clerk Jana Akers, Treasurer Terri Connelly, and Attorney Richard Bernardoni. Employees and citizens in attendance are attached to the back of the minutes.

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

-Motion by J Skinner 2nd by C Davidson for approval of minutes from 8/11/21 meeting.

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

*Motion by C Davidson 2nd M Lovell for approval of Ordinance 2021-8-3 Culverts

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

*Motion by C Davidson 2nd J Skinner to approve ratification on engagement for Mayor Davidson with Ice Miller contract

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (5)

*Motion by C Davidson 2nd by P Rukes on approval of Ordinance 2021-8-4 Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund Upon roll call 4 aldermen voted yes. M Lovell voted no.

Council Comments:

-Christmas light talk was tabled until next meeting

-Nothing new to report on street lighting

-Mayor Davidson spoke about updating the Civic system with the relief money

-Talk about dead trees that need cut, some have been marked

-Discuss new truck for Gas Department at next meeting (two bids have been received)

-Officer Slater spoke to council about new police vehicle.

- Terry Gard stated that he believes he got the cell phone deal with Verizon taken care of

- Attorney Bernardoni spoke to council about the bonds

-C Davidson mentioned looking for a grant writer

-C Davidson mentioned getting rid of the old backhoe

-C Davidson mentioned keeping the scrap from city wide clean-up and getting rid of it ourselves

- M Lovell asked about if someone wanted a second toter

-J Skinner thanked Terri for assisting while Dessie was out

-Mayor Davidson stated they will be rebidding the water tower

-T Propst mentioned pot holes next to foundry needing repaired

-Mayor Davidson talked about a roller for the street and relay mix

*Motion to adjourn meeting at 7:40 pm made by C Davidson 2nd by C Perry

Upon roll call all alderman present voted for the motion (5)
