City of Mattoon Tourism Department recently issued the following announcement.

August 20-22 Auditions for Fall Follies 2021 production at the Mattoon Depot Lone Elm Room

  • Do you have a strange, interesting, and fun talent, or like to sing and dance? The Fall Follies production team is looking for all of the above and more! Singers, dancers, actors, musicians, magicians, all are encouraged to audition. For auditions please be prepared with your talent. Singers be prepared to sing acapella or bring a track that you can sing along with, a piano will be available should you need it. Show dates and details: Fall Follies: Pure Imagination (your act should be something inspired by title) October 14, 15, 16, 22nd & 23rd evening shows. Also looking for backstage help to help with set, running lights and sound and helping behind the scenes.
August 21 Run for the Fallen 7am-noon CHS Track 7am-noon

  •  The Run for the Fallen - Illinois event is a memorial event to honor the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines from Illinois who have fallen in Afghanistan and Iraq. The event is free and allows each participant to simply walk or run one mile in memory of a fallen service member. After completing a mile each participant plants a flag (given to them at check-in) and rings a bell in memory of their fallen hero. You can choose the service member to walk in memory of, or one can be assigned to you. You will be given a card with the service members photo and personal information. You can walk for more that one person.
August 22 Harvest of Hope Family Concert, Peterson Park

  • WBGL and Rural King present the first annual Harvest of Hope family concert at Peterson Park in Mattoon on August 22nd at 5pm for an evening full of music with artists Zach Williams, Josh Wilson, Andrew Ripp, and Anne Wilson. When you purchase a $20 ticket (kids 4 and under are free), Rural King will donate every dollar to a church, Christian school, or Christian organization in the community, and YOU get to pick who! After your purchase, you take your receipt number and go to Rural King’s Church Week website and pick the organization you’d like to donate to. You can even Pay it Forward and purchase tickets to be set aside in a “bank” so that other families can attend! If you don’t have the ability to pay $20 per person, please reach out to our ticketing office to find out how to receive available free tickets. https://www.ruralking.com/harvest-of-hope
  • Every Saturday afternoon Coles County Historical Society Museum located on the track level of the Mattoon Depot 1-4pm 
  • Every Wednesday Charleston Farmers Market on the Square 7-10a
  • Every Wednesday Midweek Celebrate Downtown Mattoon Farmers Market at DeBurhs 4:30-6p 
  • Every Friday 8a-noon Mattoon Farmers Market in Lytle Park
  • Every Friday throughout the summer, lunch and music in Heritage Park 11:30am-1pm each Friday. 
  • Every Saturday Charleston 18th St. Farmers Market 8-11am
