Arcola City Council Met June 7.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
Mayor Garza called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Members present were Alderpersons Foran, Hensley, Smith, Garza, Becerra and Budd. City Administrator Wagoner, Treasurer Anderson and Attorney Bequette were also present.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Alderman Foran led the council and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
PUBLIC COMMENT Denise Kielhorn stated she would like to see a mural painted on the south side of the city hall building. Feels it should recognize heroes and kids should be ask to submit their idea of a hero.
Kendall Moore spoke on the issue that took place during the high school girls regional softball game Saturday. Officer Roley spent most of the game making people move vehicles parked on grass. Saw other vehicles in other areas of the park in the grass but they were not confronted to move. Feels if this was an issue that started with Hendrix Mowing, he should be given schedule of events taking place in park so his lawn care doesn’t overlap.
APPROVAL OF MAY 17, 2021 COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES Alderman Foran moved to approve the May 17, 2021 council meeting minutes as presented and was seconded by Alderman Smith. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
APPROVAL OF MAY 15, 2021 THROUGH JUNE 04, 2021 BILLS Alderman Hensley moved to approve the May 15, 2021 – June 04, 2021 bills as presented and was seconded by Alderman Smith. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
APPROVAL OF THE TREASURER’S REPORT FOR MAY 2021 Alderman Budd moved to approve the Treasurer’s report for May 2021 and was seconded by Alderman Smith. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
APPROVAL OF THE MAY ZONING OFFICER’S REPORT The Zoning Officer reported 4 permits issued in the month of May with valuation of $424,000 and fees in amount of $633 collected. Alderman Foran moved to approve the May Zoning Officer’s report as presented and was seconded by Alderman Becerra. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
REQUEST FROM BACK ALLEY SALOON FOR OUTDOOR EVENTS Back Alley Saloon requested approval to have outdoor events on 7-10, 8-14 and 9-18 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. They will only use the parking lot behind their building and Broomtown Café and only over to south drive. Alderman Smith moved to approve request from Back Alley Saloon for outdoor events on dates stated and was seconded by Alderman Budd. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
CONSIDER AND APPROVE ORDINANCE NO. 21-S-9, ON ESTABLISHING PREVAILING WAGES Alderman Foran moved to approve Ordinance No. 21-S-9 and was seconded by Alderman Smith. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
METROPOLITAN BLOCK UPDATE Bill reported that the Metropolitan Block has been seeded with grass, and a few rows of sunflowers and broomcorn. Alderman Hensley is working on putting together committee that will put together ideas for block.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Alderman Foran Had nothing at this time.
Alderman Hensley Reported the Budget & Finance Committee met prior to this meeting and listened to a presentation by Adam Stroud from PGAV. He gave an overview of the TIF and a business district concept.
Alderman Smith Reported there will be a Police, Ordinance & Enforcement Committee meeting following this meeting.
Alderman Garza Had nothing at this time.
Alderman Becerra Had nothing at this time.
Alderman Budd Reported that Gary has hired a part-time employee for the park.
Mayor Garza stated that 2 Graber employees would like to volunteer some time working in the park.
As this concluded the business of the meeting, Alderman Hensley moved to adjourn and was seconded by Alderman Smith. Roll call vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
