Republican state Rep. Chris Miller is struggling to understand what he sees as double standards emanating from Springfield.

Miller recently took to Facebook to share the story of a District 65 school teacher filing a discrimination suit in federal court over being forced to engage in critical race theory teachings, contrasting that against a school district that was placed on probation for COVID-19 mask mandate violations.

“Courageous Illinois teacher sues one of the most liberal school districts in the state over mandated critical race theory instruction,” he posted. “The school district literally segregated teachers by race for training. For example, the district required its teachers to attend mandatory 'antiracist' training that included segregating teachers into racially exclusive affinity groups, requiring them to engage in racial discrimination against each other. Hmm.... That sounds racist to me.”

Miller was also recently among the growing number of GOP lawmakers taking Gov. J.B. Pritzker to task over his handling of map redistricting after he vowed as a candidate to veto any map drawn along partisan lines.

Even as Pritzker publicly claimed to be in favor of creating an independent redistricting commission to handle the job of drawing the maps, Miller said he never believed the governor’s pledge to be true.

“There was never any question that they were going to ram through a partisan map to allow the Democrats to preserve their majority in Illinois," he said. "What incentive do they have to do anything differently?”

More and more, Miller said, he hears from constituents that have grown tired and are frustrated with the way democrats have elected to rule.

“They know the Democrats can pass any kind of map they want, and there is nothing the Republicans can do about it,” he said. “They are tired of the one-party rule in Illinois. It has brought nothing but pain and misery to the entire state.”
