State Rep. Chris Miller (R-Oakland) recently used the House floor to voice support for Israel.
"In Zacharie 2:8, it says whoever touches Israel, that is the apple of God's eye,” Miller said. “Today, I rise in support of the nation of Israel, America's greatest ally in the Middle East. Side by side, the American and Israeli people have stood for freedom and democracy in the face of authoritarian aggression. The people of Illinois, as well as my family, will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel against violent extremists.”
Miller’s public support comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently dismissed President Biden’s call call for a "significant de-escalation" of the conflict in Gaza, adding he is "determined to continue" the operation against the terrorist organization Hamas. Biden now also appears to be facing pressure from the progressive wing of his own party on the issue.
“We send our support and our prayers to these innocent families that have suffered,” Miller added. “I strongly condemn the attacks by Hamas and terrorists and urge our state and federal government to support our great ally, Israel.”
Several media outlets have reported Biden and Netanyahu spoke on Wednesday with the White House insisting the two "had a detailed discussion of the state of events in Gaza, Israel’s progress in degrading the capabilities of Hamas and other terrorist elements, and ongoing diplomatic efforts by regional governments and the United States."
"The President conveyed to the Prime Minister that he expected a significant de-escalation today on the path to a ceasefire," the White House said in a statement.
