State Rep. Chris Miller (R-Oakland) said that the Democrats failed to demonstrate transparency in the 102nd General Assembly's new House Rules after the majority fended off Illinoisans the right to access information during Wednesday’s House vote of 77-44.

“Today we saw the Democrat House majority fail to uphold transparency and accountability in our state government,” Miller said in his statement released after the vote.

“By implementing ‘new’ House Rules that fall well short of what the people of Illinois deserve, we the Members of the General Assembly will remain stuck in the status quo,” he continued. “Bills will still be brought forward with no time to review or discuss. Members, let alone the public, will have little time to know what we are voting on. Bills will still be sent off to die in committee without even a simple up or down vote.”

Miller said that the rules are still the same as the previous so he sees the need to continue working on reforms for his constituents.

"These old rules remain the ‘new rules.’ It is for this reason I voted no. On behalf of the 110th District, I will fight to implement real, meaningful reforms in the House of Representatives.”
