Q1 2020 Parolees Recap: Who was paroled in Shelby County?

There were three offenders released on parole during the first quarter of 2020 that live in Shelby County, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by East Central Reporter.

The data shows that all of the released offenders in Shelby County were men. The median age of the parolees was 42. The youngest parolee was a 35-year-old man sentenced for a crime involving drugs in 2017, and the oldest was a 49-year-old man sentenced for a crime against a person in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Bradley Merritt. He was convicted of a crime involving drugs in 2017 when he was 32 years old. He is now 35.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The table below gives a breakdown of how many offenders were paroled in the first quarter of 2020 in each Shelby County municipality with at least one parolee in the quarter.
