Olney FD responds to 42 fires in 2018

O'Lney Fire District responded to 91 calls in 2018 - 27.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Olney included 42 fires - 22 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 15 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $493,100 in fire loss - or about $11,740 per fire.

The department also received 48 false calls, including two malicious calls and 46 other false calls.

The O'Lney Fire District had an annual budget of $79,375 in 2018.

The Olney Firefighters Pension Fund, which has one active employee and five retired or inactive employees, was $151,059 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,069 for every fire in 2017.
