Shelbyville FPD responds to 42 fires in 2018

Shelbyville Fire Protection District responded to 65 calls in 2018 - 3.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Shelbyville included 42 fires - 17 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 21 other fires.

In all, the department saw $574,815 in fire loss - or about $13,686 per fire.

The department also received 23 false calls, including three malicious calls and 20 other false calls.

Three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Shelbyville Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $449,429 in 2017.

The Shelbyville FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has four active employees and five retired or inactive employees, was $63,547 in debt as of June 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,381 for every fire in 2017.
