The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of the Central A&M Community Unit District #21 in the counties of Shelby, Christian and Macon counties, Illinois was duly called and held on the 20th day of May, 2019 at the Central A&M Middle School, within the boundaries of the district.
Board President Josh Burgener called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm, and Secretary Tim Dowd called the roll. Members answering present were Tim Dowd, Brock Boltz, Brian Hanley, Craig Plain, Josh Burgener and Chris Just. Scott Hilton was absent.
Also Present were: Dr. DeAnn Heck, Charles Brown, David Fitzgerald, Joanne Coady, Courtney Hiler and Rick Hauffe.
Guests present were: Debbie and Bruce Pope, Julie and Dustin Daniels, Becky and Craig Reed, Dagen Reed, Marlene and Nelson Dial, and Tim Aberle.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jacob Daniels.
PUBLIC AND EMPLOYEE COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS
A. Students of Excellence – Jacob Daniels (Soph) attended the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. He had a really great experience and shared some of the activities he was able to participate in.
B. Citizens’ Agenda - Marlene Dial and Becky Reed were recognized for their actions during the bus fire. No children were injured due to their swift reaction.

SUMMER SCHOOL: Summer school for Bond and Gregory will be June 3rd through June 27th Mondays through Thursdays. Bond summer school will be held in the Middle school library and will be taught by Vanessa Rork. Gregory summer school will be in the Gregory library and will be taught by Kimberly Schmitz.
PERFECT ATTENDANCE: At this time Bond has 4 students and Gregory has 8 students who have perfect attendance for the year.
CALDECOTT: Bond second grade had their Caldecott performance on Monday May 13th. All of the students did an excellent job with speaking parts. Caldecott combines Reading and Art and it’s the first time students really talk in front of and audience.
GREGORY TOUR: On May 10th the Bond first and second grade students took a tour of Gregory to see where their classrooms would be for next year. They were also able to meet the third grade teachers and see where they eat lunch, have Art, PE, Music and Library.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Summer School: Four students are required to attend summer school, and two 8th grade students are retained for the 2019-2020 school year.
Awards Day: There was a great turnout for Awards Day this year. We recognized students who achieved honor roll, participated in extracurricular activities, and celebrated our retiring teachers. The Citizenship Award was given to Jayne Damery and Samuel Moore. Thank you to all the parents, teachers, coaches, and community members who give so much to make sure our kids have a well rounded, quality education.
Incentive Trip: We had over 125 students qualify for the end of the year incentive trip to Six Flags. Everyone had a great time!
End of the Year Activities: Community Clean Up, Talent Show, Cookout, and Kona Ice Truck
Our Raiders gave back to the community by organizing a community clean-up day that focused on old route 51 and Main Street in Assumption. They collected a large amount of trash, and had some fun doing it!
Several students participated in the annual talent show. They performed magic tricks, pointe ballet, slam poetry, singing, and a few lip syncs. The students all enjoyed the Senior boys showing up for a repeat performance of their 8th grade lip sync.
A big thank you to Sally Sloan and crew for organizing a cookout lunch for the last day of school!
Mrs. Hiler and Mr. Marcure arranged for the Kona Ice truck to stop by and give our students and staff an icee treat.
Building Updates: Mr. Garner and his team are working hard to complete maintenance tasks around the building. Painting, waxing, and set up of the STEM lab are in progress.
HIGH SCHOOL
By the time of the Board Meeting on May 20, the 27th graduating class of Central A&M High School will have completed the ceremony. I am really proud of this group of seniors, and I look forward to their futures with excitement and anticipation. They are a group we send off with pride, as they have represented our Raider Nation well. My belief is that they will continue to be wonderful representatives of our communities.
I will share the Exit Interview report with you today as well. All 58 or 59 seniors have been interviewed. We honored several students and seniors at our Awards Program on May 8.
Here are a few other notes from the High School:
Senior Austin Sloan and Junior Connor Hutchins won the IHSA Bass Fishing Sectional and fished at the state tournament in Carlyle last weekend.
Softball advanced to the Regional championship game. Girls’ Track season concluded at the Sectional level. Baseball fell in the Regional Semifinals. Boys’ Track competed in the Sectional May 16.
One event and one wonderful evening closer to the graduation of the Central A&M High School Senior Class of 2019.We celebrated with 36 of the seniors, who chose to take part in the Baccalaureate program on Mothers Day.We sent these Seniors out into the world with prayers, song, and an inspiring message from Fame Evangelical Church Pastor Tom Black. Thanks to the Ministerial Alliances for celebrating this evening with our seniors.

Friday was the last day for the Raider Seniors.
Really enjoyed May 8 as we celebrate all of the Students of the Month throughout the year. Thanks to Mrs. Moore for organizing this program all these years, and to Mrs. Simmons and Mrs. Boltz for helping to serve. A beautiful Monday evening outside, and beautiful sounds inside as the Central A&M High School Band and Choir performed its Spring Concert and Awards Monday.
This post is about Band. Director Matt Parker and the Raiders performed two numbers as the jazz band began the concert with "Bye Bye Blackbird" by Henderson and "I Got You (I Feel Good)" by James Brown. The concert band then performed three selections: "Children's March" by Percy Grainger; "The Seal Lullaby" by Eric Whitacre; and "Celebration and Song" by Robert Sheldon.

Great day in Raider Nation as we welcomed the Class of 2023. Seniors showed groups of the 8th graders around and spoke about high school life. We love the potential of each group of freshmen. We encourage them to have good attendance, become involved in clubs, activities, and sports, and keep up with homework. We let them know today that they have the potential and the abilities to be successful in high school. Welcome to the Class of 2023.
Wonderful morning celebrating Central A&M Senior Drew Guebert at the Illinois Principals Association Abe Lincoln Recognition Breakfast today in Springfield. Drew was one of several students honored in the region for scholarship, citizenship, and leadership. Central A&M 8th Grader Cheyenne Tulak was also honored.
Very proud to spend today's lunch at Hickory Point Golf Course with the Central Illinois Conference Senior Recognition banquet. Yeager Minott represented Central A&M as one of the talented and honored seniors in the CIC. It has been a blessing to watch these CIC seniors compete over the past four years. We look forward to great success from these students.
